Praying for a Loved One in Color: A Journey of Healing

Perhaps you are praying for someone you love today. Not too long ago, I found myself praying for a dear one, and I decided to pull out my paintbrushes and oil paints. I wanted to lift this loved one before God. This person, like many others, had navigated a difficult and painful season.

The Power of Color in Prayer

I placed rich colors on my palette, set up my paintbrushes and the blank piece of clayboard. I dipped my brush into the dark colors and reached for the white surface. These colors reflected the hardship my loved one was facing. I dragged the bristles across the board, painting a red line through the center, symbolizing the woundedness of the one I cared for. Below the red line, shades of blue emerged. Aw waterfall of tears and grief.

As I held my loved one before the Lord, I sensed how God's heart grieves for our pain. I painted blue falling from above to reflect God's sadness for my loved one's suffering.

A Prayer for Healing

In that moment, my prayer emerged. I prayed that those who experience deep suffering would come to know God's profound love and grief for their hurting hearts.

White in my paintings often reflects the movement of the Spirit. It symbolizes God's purposes and intentions at work. The white undergirds and surrounds the entire piece, providing a sense of hope and healing.

Kintsugi: The Art of Mending

Finally, I placed gold over the red line in the center. This represented my ongoing prayer for a "Kintsugi mending" of my loved one's heart. Kintsugi is the ancient Japanese art of repairing pottery. It serves as a powerful metaphor for redemption.

When pottery is broken, it is mended with gold. This art form tells a story of re-creation. It allows the pottery to fulfill its purpose and enhances its unique beauty and value.

Embracing the Journey

May God heal and mend those we love for His glory. Healing is a journey, and it often takes time. We must embrace the process, knowing that each step brings us closer to wholeness.

After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:10-11

Connecting Through Art

Art can be a powerful tool for connection and expression. It allows us to convey emotions that words often cannot capture. When we create, we invite others into our journey.

Consider sharing your artistic expressions with those around you. You might be surprised by how it resonates with others.

Conclusion

In conclusion, praying for a loved one can take many forms. Whether through art, prayer, or literature, we can find ways to support those we care for. May our hearts be open to healing, both for ourselves and for those we love.
