A Journey to the Cross: Leaning into Suffering, Intimacy, and Hope

Lent is drawing near. During Lent we remember Jesus' journey toward the cross: the increasing opposition, his arrest and crucifixion, burial, and resurrection. This prayer retreat will engage the themes of Lent: waiting, engaging the suffering, intimacy with God, repentance, and hope.

About the event

A Prayer Retreat

Journey to the Cross... Leaning into Suffering, Intimacy, and Hope

In the final stretch of Jesus' ministry opposition against him increased culminating in false accusations, an unjust arrest and trial, and crucifixion.

Lent is about engaging with Jesus on his journey to the cross. After three years of active ministry, teaching with authority that caused the Jews to marvel, ministering to thousands with miracles and compassion, healing the broken and rebuking evil, training and loving his disciples, Jesus' journey turns toward the darkness. As we remember Jesus' journey to the cross we consider our own journey with him.

Grace Bible Church in Souderton is hosting a prayer retreat on Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 9-3:00pm.

We will engage Jesus' journey to the cross by attending to some of the stories in his final weeks and days: Jesus' delay when his friends, Mary and Martha, send word of their brother's illness, the last supper when Jesus washes his disciple's feet disrupting their preconceptions, and the failure and falling away of the disciples in crisis. We will reflect on our own journey with God and our identification with the cross of Jesus, and we will listen for God's word to our heart.

Through Scripture, silence, prayer practices, and community we will listen for the Spirit of God.

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,

but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18 NAS
